PCBA VLP: Helping Low-Income Clients - A Streamlined Process for Volunteer Attorneys
Want to make a difference in your community while using your legal expertise?
The PCBA Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) connects Polk County Bar Association member attorneys like YOU with low-income clients in Polk County in need of civil legal representation including child support, dissolution of marriage, child custody, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant matters, wills, estates and more.
Here's how easy it is to get involved:
- Review our monthly wish list: We send out a brief breakdown of clients and case overviews by case type (family law, consumer, housing, etc.).
- Select a case: Simply let us know which case(s) you'd like to take on.
- Get the details: We'll send you the client file for an initial interview.
- Decide to represent: If you can help, let us know. The PCBA VLP provides you with legal malpractice insurance for VLP cases you take on.
- Focus on your client: Our staff handles intake, background checks, scheduling, and case screening. You handle the case!
- Wrap it up: Once the case concludes, let us know the time you spent.
- Get recognized: We'll acknowledge your contribution on our next wish list and we keep track of your pro bono hours if you ever need to know for any reason!
By volunteering just even just a few hours, you can make a big impact in our community!
