President’s Message – October/November 2020
Let’s take a moment to reflect on how important your membership is to our association. Of course, membership dues support our many great events and programs such as a full year of CLE offerings, Law Day, the mediation program, and the Volunteer Lawyers Project. But membership is also the gateway to involvement and that combination keeps our association strong, especially in these challenging times.
This fall, in addition to renewing your membership, I invite you to make a pledge to become more involved in PCBA events over the coming year. Here are a few ideas for you to consider:
- Join a committee! Undoubtedly, there is a committee that fits your interests and skill set, and all of them need active participants. Committee service can also be a springboard to leadership positions in the organization. Click here to find out more about our committees.
- Join us at our (virtual, for now) monthly luncheons. The virtual lunches are free to members, will often include CLE credit, and we have great speakers coming up (Judge Nelmark and Judge McAllister on October 13 and Colin Grace from the ARL on November 10).
- Sign up for the PCBA Golf Outing (October 9, 2020) and/or a (virtual, for now) Trivia Night. These events give us an opportunity to have some fun while supporting the VLP.
- Be a speaker at a PCBA event! We have numerous (virtual, for now) opportunities and this is a great way to build your reputation and market your practice.
In an environment where we are more isolated than ever before, and with an extremely limited staff, our association needs its lawyers and judges to volunteer and get involved – especially you who are newly admitted to the bar. Active participation in PCBA can be a great benefit to a new lawyer’s emerging career. And, we need your energy, ideas, and leadership now more than ever.
I thank each and every one of you for being a member of Polk County Bar Association and I look forward to seeing you (virtually, for now) at many of our upcoming events
