President’s Message – June/July 2022

PCBA President Debra Hockett-Clark

Well it is hard to believe, but here is my last joke for my last President’s letter:

A couple was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The husband was asked what was the secret to their marriage. He replied, “When we first got married, we agreed that I would make all the big decisions and she would make all the small decisions. So far it’s been all small decisions.

I am sad to see my year as President come to an end. Most of my year was all virtual meetings and luncheons, but luckily, the pandemic precautions were eased and we were able to have our Law Day Event and our Annual Meeting luncheon in person. The luncheon was full and it was nice to see all of the members catching up with colleagues they had not seen for a few years.

However, our lives will never go back to what they were prior to the pandemic. The courts will continue virtual hearings after learning during the past few years how well they work. We will continue to have our CLEs available virtually and in person which has increased attendance and made it easier for members to attend. The PCBA is planning events that allow our members to return to in person social events like our upcoming golf outing and trivia night. I am very proud of how well the PCBA has transitioned from all in person events to all virtual meetings to now offering most events either in person or virtually to ensure that our members can attend in a way they feel comfortable.

I would like to thank Carol Phillips and Sonja Diener for their continued dedication to the PCBA. It really is a well-oiled machine. They continue to work hard to make sure that our members are getting valuable benefits for their membership. We are excited to announce that we are working on updating the PCBA website. We look forward to the new features that will be coming.

The PCBA will be in good hands with its new President, Adam Zenor. He has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to improving the PCBA through his work on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the past several years. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as President. I hope you all have a great summer.
