October/November 2011 President’s Message

At our September 21 board meeting, we discussed updating the PCBA committee structure. We currently have 11 committees, all of which provide PCBA members with educational, social, and networking opportunities. The committees also serve other important purposes. For example, the Ethics and Fee Arbitration committees assist in resolving complaints lodged against Polk County attorneys; the Judicial Retention Committee supports the fair selection and retention of the judges in our district and the members of the Iowa appellate courts; and the Law Day committee sponsors an annual writing competition for middle and high school students.

We want to make sure our committees are serving your interests. We are exploring the addition of committees focused on lawyer marketing, business law, small firm practice, juvenile law, and government law. Would any of these be of interest to you?  If so, please contact me at sreckley@belinmccormick.com or Carol Burdette at cburdette@pcbaonline.org.

Finally, if you are looking for an opportunity to share your expertise with your fellow lawyers, or if you know of an interesting topic or speaker, our Fall CLE seminar is scheduled for November 18. Contact Tim Eckley Timothy.Eckley@iowacourts.gov with your comments or suggestions.
