June/July 2011 President’s Message

It is appropriate to begin this message by offering my humble thanks to our members for allowing me the privilege of serving as this year’s President. The Polk County Bar Association is blessed with a wonderful group of officers, directors, committee chairs, and active members.  Working together, I am confident we will have another successful year.

Among the priorities for our attention this year are the following: 1) strengthening the finances of the Volunteer Lawyers Project—our premiere community service program; 2) building our new website and newsletter into valuable resources for our members, and 3) continuing to support our judiciary and the integrity of Iowa’s judicial selection and retention processes.

Other activities of the PCBA are accomplished largely through the good work of our committees.  I encourage all of you to consider participating in one or more of the following committees: Attorney Fee Arbitration, Bench Bar, Continuing Legal Education, Ethics, Family Law, Judicial Retention, Law Day, Membership, Newsletter and Website, Public Relations, Real Estate, Social, and Young Lawyers Division

More information about each committee can be found on our new website. Committees will be formed over the summer. If you have interest in serving as a committee member, please contact Carol Burdette or me so we can help you get involved.

I look forward to seeing you at our annual Law Clerk lunch meeting on June 14 or our free General Practice CLE on June 17!
